I think it took me 2 to 3 months to sort of get over my issues with it. It made no sense, it didn't fallow the same basic rules for navigation and movement in the UI that 3DS Max and Maya used. I came from using 3DS Max at the studios I was working with in Toronto and Cinema, in my eyes, was terrible. When I first started using C4D around 4 years ago when I moved to Auckland and I hated it. I really do believe though, if you are hungry for it and work for it - you can make it happen. At least two hours of my day are emails, social postings, reel updates, behance updates and things of the like. Pretty much make stuff that people like, and throw it at as many walls as you can to see what sticks - this is a LOT of work. Remote freelance is really hard to get into - if I were living in NYC or LA i'd be a lot farther in my career than I am now simply because studios have no reason to take on the risk of some remote freelancer who they cannot monitor, versus the guys they know locally already - and getting the foot in the door is a lot harder. I just spent like a thousand bucks on some swank ass business cards from this little botique print shop, that comes from your own pocket.

Granted, a lot of that goes toward software and hardware - since as a freelance artist you are purchasing everything as wella s paying for any promotional -so it's not quite as much as you'd think in that regard. Last year was a six digit year for me, and the same can be true for anyone. Freelance can be as lucrative as you make it - take on more projects if you want more money, the more efficient you are with your time, the more projects you can take on. The same goes for money, you negotiate your projects based on what you think you and your work are worth against the budgetary needs of the client. However, I really prefer to just pick and choose the gigs I take. If I were a smarter man I'd figure out a way to capitalize on the situation by employing people and taking all the gigs. Personally I have multiple project opportunities per month.
